Welcome

Kerry Women Writers' Network is born. The inaugural meeting took place at Kerry County Library on 25th January 2014. Following introductions, a lively discussion was had between writers about workshops they had attended both the good and the bad and the possibility of organising workshops in future as a Network. In addition the pros and cons of self-publishing were discussed. A vote was taken about whether or not the Network should meet at different locations around the county to enable women from different areas to attend the meetings and it was decided that meetings should take place in the same venue each month to avoid confusion. It was decided by majority vote that the Network should meet on the 1st Saturday of every month at Kerry County Library.

Claire O'Mahony agreed to create the blog and to provide a presentation on blogging at the next meeting.

Victoria Kennefick advised the group about the new Kerry Arts Database and advised all to register both as an individual and as a group via the Kerry County Council website http://www.kerrycoco.ie/en/allservices/arts/artsdatabase/

She went on to inform us that Kerry Cultural Officer Kate Kennelly was very supportive of the group.

Following a suggestion by Bridget McAuliffe, it was decided that we should launch both KWWN and this Blog on the 8th of March on International Women's Day, which falls on a Saturday this year. The celebration is to include readings by some Network members, music, wine and nibbles at a venue yet to be announced... but watch this space. Margret Shea will be producing the poster and agreed to contact a quartet for the event.
