I'd like to thank everyone at Galway Rape Crisis Centre (GRCC), Aoife and judge Mike McCormack for organising the recent Flash Fiction competition, readings from which were held at Charles Byrne Bookshop in Galway last week.

I had two stories shortlisted and got to read them out on the night. They intend to repeat the competition next year I think, and it's well worth keeping an eye out for. This was the first one, but hopefully it will grow.

Unfortunately I can't find details of the winner anywhere, but it was a brilliant story about a Traveller woman and a worthy winner.

Fiona wins the Stephen Joseph Award for Theatre Research

Congrats are in order yet again for a KWWN member...this time its for Dr Fiona Brennan. Theatre Historian and Practitioner, Dr. Fiona Brennan has just been awarded the Stephen Joseph Award for Theatre Research by the Society for British Theatre Research.
Fiona is author of George Fitzmaurice "Wild in His Own Way": Biography of an Abbey Playwright (Carysfort Press 2005) and a PhD graduate of Drama and Theatre Studies, UCC.
This award is in recognition of her current research on the amateur dramatic movement in Ireland and, specifically, for her research on private amateur theatricals in the gentry houses of Co. Kerry. This research will be included in a proposed monograph on the History of Theatre in Co. Kerry: 18th -20th centuries.
